In today's Gospel of Mark 4:21-25, we are given a parable about a lamp. How we often hide the light that is meant to shine for others. Today's parable has many parts to form a whole meaning. 22For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; nothing is secret except to come to light. What we often attempt to hide eventually comes to light. How we all seem to try and hide our dislike for another is often revealed in our actions, our silence, our gestures, is usually revealed to the one whom is rejected. Is this how we go around trying to hide the light of God within us all, by putting barriers between the light to dim it.
Next we have something to do about ears and hearing, how we should take care what we hear. There are plenty out there, who would like more than anything, to lead others astray by what they say. And it's also about how we gossip against each other, for what we hear can sometimes turn us against another.
That leads us to, 24The measure with wich you measure will be measured out to you, and still more will be given to you. 25To the one who has, more will be given; from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. Let us just think about this for a moment, by following God's path you are not hurting another, nor judging another, for how we measure others we will also be measured. You follow God's path, more will be given to you, that's understandable in that his graces are plentiful. Should you follow a way of evil, then what you do have, more will be taken away. Who wants more taken away? If anything we should all seek to have more of what God gives to us freely.
If we have lived our lives following God's word, then we have done what he asks of us. We have been given parables to bring to light where we err, and how we need to correct it, in order to have that oneness with God. He resides within us all, but all too often we cover up his light, by the many actions we do in our life and how we feign love for each other. When it's genuine, a person glows from within, when it is fake, no light shines.
