Freedom from Fear

And you, child, will be called prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.... (NAB) Luke 1:76-77

Zechariah prophesied this about his son John. That John would be the greatest herald that ever lived to proclaim the coming of our Lord. To give us his knowledge of salvation through forgiveness of sins. He was showing us before the coming of our Lord that through repentance we will have life. How true his prophesy was. It is through the sacrament of Reconciliation that we free our hearts from bondage. We fill ourselves up with so much stuff that weighs us down in Spirit. We don't realize how heavy we have become, not in body but in our souls. Do we ever feel as if we are carrying a great weight around with us. Or go around sighing, saying things like I feel as if we are carrying a ton of bricks. Those are the moments when we have felt the weight of our sins. John the Baptist showed us that true Freedom is to repent. That means Confession of the heart, to reconcile our souls. This is how we remove the weight that we have been carrying around for so long. Do you know how truly free we become when we fess-up all that has been keeping us stopped-up. It's like the kitchen sink being plugged, when you apply draino (confession), what does it do? It clears the clog, allowing access for water to pass. How do you feel after the drain becomes unplugged? Pretty good I would say, it's a relief. Well this was John's purpose in his life to prepare us for the great gift of the sacrament of reconciliation. He also was given to us to prepare us for the Greatest Treasure that God has given, his only Son. Who is to bring us Love. God Bless
