Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks,
and distributed them to those who were reclining,
and also as much of the fish as they wanted.
When they had their fill, he said to his disciples,
“Gather the fragments left over,
so that nothing will be wasted.”
John 6:11-12
When Jesus fed the five thousand that day so very long ago, he showed us his first Eucharistic miracle. He also showed to his disciples that they are to collect and gather all remaining fragments. We see this today at Mass, how very careful the Priest are to ensure that the bread fragments are not lost. After all this is where our Risen Lord is. Little did we know that he began showing us how he was going to feed us too. Not just in a physical way but in a very spiritual way.
What a glorious opportunity we all have to partake of this same miracle that Jesus performed long ago, that of being fed by him.
