Tuesday of the First Week in Ordinary Time

In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, "What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!" Jesus rebuked him and said, "Quiet! Come out of him!"
Mark 1:24-25

Reflection:
In a synagogue Jesus removed an unclean spirit. But this unclean spirit recognized Jesus as the Holy One of God.

When we are in Church do we recognize Jesus in the Eucharist as the Holy One of God? Come to free us of unclean spirits ourselves. Little do we realize how much we let in these unclean spirits when we go against what God teaches us. We have so much in our day that promotes evil, it isn't surprising that there is less piety when we enter a Church, where we encounter the Holy One of God in our Tabernacles and in those who are there with us.

Have we ever wanted to rebuke a person for their actions that signify a spirit of that is not of holiness. Just as the unclean spirit in today's reading said, "have you come to destroy us," and we who are children of God should say yes, we come to destroy what is not right with God. Let us remove the unclean spirits that take away from God, and restore to us life.
