Memorial of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, virgin

Jesus said to his Apostles:
“No disciple is above his teacher,
no slave above his master.
It is enough for the disciple that he become like his teacher,
for the slave that he become like his master.
If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul,
how much more those of his household!
“Therefore do not be afraid of them.
Nothing is concealed that will not be revealed,
nor secret that will not be known.
What I say to you in the darkness, speak in the light;
what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops.
And do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul;
rather, be afraid of the one who can destroy
both soul and body in Gehenna.
Are not two sparrows sold for a small coin?
Yet not one of them falls to the ground without your Father’s knowledge.
Even all the hairs of your head are counted.
So do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Everyone who acknowledges me before others
I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.
But whoever denies me before others,
I will deny before my heavenly Father.”

Matthew 10:24-33

Prayer

Dear Father we are not to be afraid because you know everything that goes on with us. Nothing happens to us without your knowledge, yet we seldom think about this in our lives when we are confronted with obstacles. The same also about speaking Jesus' name and yours before others. How often do we insert Jesus' name in our conversations other than as a way of swearing. But truly speaking in a way of acknowledging him and God. Think about how they may feel when we deny them before others. The same can be said of us when we too are denied being known when we are present to others. It shouldn't bother us when someone we know denies knowing us. But when we live as Christ asks of us we know what he speaks of when things happen to us. We begin to understand the meaning of what Jesus spoke about. It is putting the mind of Christ in our lives. May we grow in understanding and blossom in fruitfulness. May we in our conversations be open and loving about our faith. May we be the ones who never deny knowing Jesus as we have a conversation. Let it begin with us today when we speak to others, let us make him known throughout the world. Amen
