Division

I am come to cast fire on the earth; and what will I, but that it be kindled? And I have a baptism wherewith I am to be baptized: and how am I straitened until it be accomplished? Think ye, that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, no; but separation. For there shall be from henceforth five in one house divided: three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against his father, the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother, the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
Luke 12:49-53 (Douay-Rheims)

Prayer

Dear Father these are trials we live with daily, division within our families. How is it then that Jesus will kindle the fire that will blaze. It seems to be at odds with his message of love, yet we strive to correct those divisions in our families don't we? I know at times when I am at odds with my own mother or father, I try even harder to mend the rift, apologizing, asking forgiveness and loving when pain is often the result. They too, do the same. When we love God we do all that is possible to heal the hurts that sometimes are caused by our pride, our sinful nature. We are made in his image but we are human in nature and we often go in our own direction and not seek to mend any rift that we or others may cause. Such division is widespread and to think how many are divided with God too. If we can make the move to mend the rifts in our lives with our families, imagine when we do it with God, how much we would set the earth on fire for his love and mercy. Dear Father may we seek healing and unity in our families, but most especially with you. May our hearts reunite with yours and come to light the earth with your love. Amen
