Second Friday of Our Advent Journey

To what shall I compare this generation? It is like children who sit in marketplaces and call to one another, "We played the flute for you, but you did not dance, we sang a dirge but you did not mourn." (NAB) Matthew 11:16-17

We call each other but do we hear, we see each other but do we really see. It's interesting to walk through the Malls to call out to someone you know and they not hear you. It's just as interesting when you see someone and they look right through you. It's as if we shut ourselves off, turning into people we do not know. How often do we walk through the Malls smiling at each person we walk by acknowledging their presence. If we see someone fall do we stop and help or keep walking by. Do we mourn for them because they were injured, even when we don't know them. What really happens when we shop, we become single-minded. Our thoughts are on the agenda of what we are there for, so we often do not hear or see our neighbors.

When we are at Church are we hearing God's word and seeing his Presence among us, or is it possible we are the same as when we are at the Malls, neither hearing or seeing. Jesus says hello to us but we do not hear him. Jesus comes to us but we do not see him. Jesus fell but we do not mourn with him.
