Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to him in Hebrew, "Rabbouni," which means Teacher. Jesus said to her, "Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them, 'I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.'" Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, "I have seen the Lord," and then reported what he told her.
We love those we have in our life so deeply, that when they pass from this world, we refuse to let them go. Are we also stopping them from ascending to the Father as Mary was for Jesus. Is our love selfish, that we do not allow room to grow. Or let a loved one be released from our earthly grasp.
Jesus needed to relay that to Mary, so she could move on with her life as part of His plan. So she could be an integral part of being one of the first witnesses of His Resurrection. To go and proclaim to the apostles that He is Risen from the dead.
It is also a valuable lesson to us, about letting go in order for us to have life with Jesus. To let go of what holds us back. Do we sometimes cling so tightly that we forget how to live. Do we also cling so tightly to Jesus that we do not give him room to work in our lives. It is often called controlled love.
I love you dear Jesus enough to let you ascend to the Father, so you may also come freely into my heart.
