Eyes on Jesus

Let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.
Hebrews 12:1-2

Reflection:
Why should we change our ways? We are going through life just fine. We have all the in things that the world is offering. Why should we change? We are not burdened, other than the usual we have debt because we need to buy food, clothes, and so much more.

In an example I gave to my students, we are adrift in a boat, with no skills and no knowledge of how to run the boat. And should a storm arise we have no learning about how to handle the boat. Some of the questions on how would we feel at certain moments adrift in this boat. Finally when the storm arose while we are adrift, we are clueless as to how to take care of the boat, we panic, we fear. One of the things the children forgot the most in this lesson was to pray for help.

That even though we are alone in a boat adrift on the sea of life we are never truly alone, and when trouble or difficulties arise we often forget about Jesus. Some don't though. So as we read today in the Gospel faith will save us. But it is also us that need to change our ways in how we deal with life. Never assume it should be the person next to you either. Because no matter how secure we are with ourselves there is room to change.
